How do you react when you see a headline that reads:
"2.2 billion people still don't have access to clean drinking water"
This is the headline of a recent report from World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). Sad but true...if you live in the United States, you probably wash your car in clean drinking water. Yes, we are blessed as a nation and we are also in a position to help.
The Institute started 2020 with a water-filter project that placed water filters in 20 homes in the Western Highlands of Guatemala. These filters are now providing clean water to over 300 people due to families sharing their new filter with neighbors. Although providing water filters in needy areas is not new concept, this project was a first of its kind for the Institute. Assisting in many medical team projects, Team leaders Chad and Pamela took on the project and led the February team. The filters were provided with Institute’s partners from The Hope Initiative, a partnerships of caring non-profits who have united to help hurting people. The February water team taught how to install and maintain the filters, and the importance of flushing the filters each week to maintain the filter’s efficiency.
In part of her testimony of the trip, Pamela wrote "one of the places where we placed a filter was at Priscilla's house. Priscilla has four daughters and her husband struggles with alcoholism. To access Priscilla's house we had to walk down a dirt path through a trash dump. Priscilla's youngest was only a few weeks old...there was a light in the infant's eyes that warmed our hearts. Priscilla was so thankful for the clean water. We are grateful to Jesus for being our Source of Living Water - the One who satisfies our soul's deepest desire with the joy of our salvation."
$45 dollars provides a water filter and supplies that can provide clean water for a family for up to eight years (150 gallons per day). The filters are installed by Institute staff or short-term mission teams. Chad and Pamela are leading another water team in October 2020.
We invite your donations, your questions, but most of all...we invite you to do something about the headline "2.2 billion people still don't have access to clean drinking water."
